Wolfsburg, who finished second behind Bayern and won the German Cup last season took the lead when Daniel Caligiuri beat Manuel Neuer at his near post. Until the first half the game did look tight yet some would’ve thought that the second half might just swing the other way but, this I promise you, not one man in those stands would’ve imagined what was about to unfold in front of their eyes.
It turned out to be THE perfect change – Thiago (out) Robert (in) for the second half. The rest as they say, is history! Robert Smashed five goals in just nine minutes to create an all new Bundesliga record of the fastest five goals to have ever been scored by one player in the history of the league! Also, he breaks his own personal record of highest number of goals in one game, his previous best was four goals which came against Real Madrid in the champions league game of 2013 which saw Borussia Dortmund secure second place in that particular season.
The first three came in just 3 minutes and 22 seconds! 3 out of the five were from close range and two were from outside the box. Nevertheless, all five were sensational and thanks to Robert, Bayern Munich are now top of the league with a three point lead ahead of rivals Borussia Dortmund who still have a game in hand.
